CD105 (endoglin) is a proliferation-associated and hypoxia-inducible protein abundantly expressed in angiogenic endothelial cells. It is a receptor for transforming growth factor (TGF) -beta1 and -beta3 and modulates TGF-beta signaling by interacting with TGF-beta receptors I and/or II and hence driving tumor growth and metastasis. Endoglin (CD105) is a better marker to identify proliferating endothelium involved in tumor angiogenesis than pan-endothelial markers such as CD31, CD34 , Factor VIII etc. It can be used as a marker for microvessel density measurement and also in tumor imaging.
