CDX-2, a member of the caudal-related homeobox family, is an intestine specific transcription factor that regulates both proliferation and differentiation. It is expressed in the nuclei of epithelial cells throughout the intestine. Clone CDX2-88 reacts with a conserved epitope of the 40 kD CDX2 protein localized in the nucleus. Cytokeratin 7 is a 54 kD marker of simple epithelium. Antibody to Cytokeratin 7 strongly stains epithelial cells of ovary, lung and breast, but is absent from gastrointestinal epithelium, hepatocytes, proximal and distal tubules of the kidney, and myoepithelium. The EPR1619Y monoclonal antibody to Cytokeratin 7 stains positive in the cytoplasm of positive epithelial cells. This antibody cocktail can be used to distinguish colon cancers from breast, lung and ovarian cancers.
